Clos de gamot
The vineyard
Clos de Gamot is an old vineyard of 25 ha, with only one grape variety: the Malbec.
It has a superb “terroir” clay-siliceous, with pebbles and silex.
One part of its vines are 120 years old and still producing some grapes. They were planted immediately after the phylloxera epidemic, in 1885. These centenary vines have very low yields of 10 to 15 hl / ha.
The other part of the vineyard is between 40 and 70 years old. It also has very limited yields (about 40 hl / ha).
The soil is worked by plowing, without weed killer, there are more than 10 to 12 farming ways by season. Manual harvest is necessary to pick grapes of the old vines.
The vinification
To keep the terroir characteristic the parcels are vinified separately. The maceration period is about 21 days. It is closely monitored by various tastings and the knowledge of the Jouffreau family, to find the right time to stop the maceration.
Our extractions methods remain traditional and very respectful of the vintage's character. We prefer using pumping over, to work on the wine harmony of our “Cuvée”. The Cuvée Blending brings the exceptional quality of the Clos de Gamot wine and his fabulous keeping potential.
The maturing
The maturing period in large and big barrels can last 18 to 24 months, according to the “millésime”. Topping up, racking, blending, tasting rhythm the maturing period during which the tannin structure is becoming more rounded and where new complex aromas are released.
